It is native to the rivers and streams of the island of Papua New Guinea in Oceania. The fish has a slender and elongated body that can reach a maximum length of 10 cm. Their coloration includes a deep blue body, silver scales, and a distinctive black blotch below the dorsal fin. The blue eyes are also a notable feature of this fish, making them appealing to aquarium hobbyists. In the wild, Parkinsoni rainbowfish feed on insects, crustaceans, and algae. In the aquarium, they usually feed on a varied diet of flakes, pellets, and live or frozen foods. This fish requires a tropical freshwater environment with lots of vegetation and hiding places. They are generally peaceful and can coexist with other species of similar temperament, making them a popular choice for aquarists.
